Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while visiting Asia in the summer of 1976.
It contains stock footage of Bali, Indonesia: tourists relaxing on a resort on the beach, little girls cleaning the street in front of their school, monkeys living in a temple (probably Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud), Pura Desa Temple in Ubud, the Royal Cremation Ceremony in Ubud, the Taman Kertha Gosa Pavilion in Klungkung, an outdoor show of Balinese dance, Besakih Temple, Tanah Lot Temple, and more.
The Royal Cremation Ceremonyis called ‘Ngaben’ and the dance performance is called ‘Barong’. It has 3 acts: Barong (mythical lion) – dance with monkeys, Keris – dance with krises (daggers) and final scene with Barong and Rangda (demon queen) battle.
