Archival footage shot by a West German filmmaker during a guided tour in Brazil in 1976.
It contains stock footage of Rio de Janeiro (These places are completely different today.):
(00:00 – 00:14) tourists on Copacabana Beach waiting for a bus sightseeing tour along some Rio’s West Coast beaches
(00:15 – 00:34) a beach at the very beginning of Barra da Tijuca; this beach is 18 km long and extends until Recreio dos Bandeirantes
(00:35 – 00:49) unidentified place; seems to be a footage taken from some hill with zoom lenses
(00:50 – 01:25) partial views of Leblon, Ipanema, Lagoa and Humaitá neighborhoods; also footage of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon), the hippodrome at Jockey Club (Hipódromo da Gávea) and the Jesus Christ statue on the Corcovado summit; at 01:20 the far part of Copacabana, beyond the mountains
(01:26 – 01:53) Corcovado and partial views of Botafogo, Flamengo and Laranjeiras neighborhoods, along with Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf); at 01:52 the runways of Santos Dumont Airport
(01:54 – 01.58) partial view of downtown Rio; far off, Ponte Rio-Niterói (Rio-Niterói bridge, inaugurated in 1974, with almost 14 km extension, linking both cities); the portion of water is Baía da Guanabara (Guanabara Bay)
(01:59 – 02:40) Copacabana; footage also shows a traditional handicraft street market, that exists until today
(02:41 – 02:44) Vieira Souto Avenue, the most elegant and with more expensive houses and apartments in Rio; mountain far away is in Leblon neighborhood
(02:45 – 02:51) Arpoador Beach, a small part of Ipanema Beach
(02:52 – 03:16) Copacabana Beach
(03:17 – 03:38) some tour to an unidentified place with views of the Porto do Rio (Rio docks)
(03:39 – 03:53) unidentified places
(03:54 – 04:07) Copacabana beach
(04:08 – 04:16) Arcos da Lapa (Lapa Acqueduct)
(04:17 – 04:32) views of the interior of the Military Police Headquarter, downtown Rio; beginning at 04:23, footage of the top of the Metropolitan Cathedral, near the barrac
(04:33 – 04:47) Copacabana Beach
(04:48 – 05:16) unidentified place; probably partial view of inland Copacabana; footage taken from inside an hotel room
(05:17 – 05:53) Copacabana Beach, car and buses on Avenida Atlântica and view of Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) seen from Copacabana (The most footages and photos of Pão de Açúcar are taken from the top of Corcovado or from Botafogo Cove. Perhaps a non-Rio de Janeiro born person would not recognize Pão de Açúcar taken from other locations.)
(05:54 – 06:26) Copacabana (Some of the houses seen in the footage don’t exist anymore. They were demolished and in its place buildings arose.)
